FruitaBu

by Stephanie

We tried something new today, and I can’t resist writing about it. My 3-year-old son and I were walking through Costco, in search of REAL tomatoes, and they were sampling “FruitaBu.” Now for those of you who are uninformed — as I was — FruitaBu is this new version of fruit leather. It follows along the lines of a fruit roll-up, but it’s made of “organic smooshed fruit.”

At Costco, they were handing out 1-inch strips of this smooshed fruit, and admittedly, 1-inch of smooshed fruit is tasty.

12-inches is not tasty. Or rather, it’s still tasty, you’re just very tired of it by the end.

My son asked for a roll as soon as we got to the car. Sure! No problem! It’s organic fruit, right? He made it through about a quarter of a roll before announcing it was “yucky.”

If you’re a HUGE fan of dehydrated fruits or fruit leather, then you’ll probably love this. As for my family, we’re sticking with fruit roll-ups!

Really? I am so sad to hear this, as FruitaBu is one of my favorite snack items! I imagine that may be in part because I haven’t had a fruit rollup in probably well over 10 years, and am not really a big fan of sugar in non-dessert items. Sorry to hear your kiddo was disatisfied–meanwhile I order this stuff by the crate!!

I am suprised as well…my mom works for a food distributor and brought us samples of these for my 1 1/2 year old. She is in love with the apple roll ups. All she says is “apple” all day. The problem we are having is that they are not for sale here yet and now when we run out she calls grandmom and says “apple” over the phone to get more. These are awesome for someone who does not want to start their kids off craving sugary junk. My 9 year (who has had the sugary fruit roll ups) ofcourse prefered the junk over the non junk, but to my 1 1/2 year old this is a great treat and I want her to have healthy eating habits! It’s awesome that things like this are being introduced and we have better options. Fruit roll ups are NOT a healthy option….just read the ingredients. Your sons/daughters will eventually eat them if that IS their only option, my 9 year old does now. Why would you want to give them anything else? Thanks Fruitabu…

I think the FruitaBu smooshed fruit snacks were VERY tasty! THIS is what I remember Fruit Roll-Ups tasting like when I was a teen! (’80s)I like the rolls (kinda like a Fruit by the Foot) and would like to try the flats. Tart, sweet, fruity and flavorful, they are a hit with me! (so far, I’ve only had the grape)
