Dollar Store Kitchen Equipment
Before you get into paying the big bucks for your tools, there are a wide variety of kitchen utensils available at your local dollar store. Look in at several of them, because they don’t all carry the same things.
Of course, you get what you pay for, so don’t expect a dollar-store item to last long and faithfully. This is a good way, however, to find out what things you’ll use a lot, and want the top-of-the line merchandise.
I buy wooden spoons at the dollar store, because at four in a package for a dollar, they’re at disposable cost, and you’ve always got a clean one handy.

Hi!
Great advice on the wooden spoons. Er..Not that mine regularly get eaten in the blender or anything..because..ahhh..that would just be stupid!
A man I date also buys silicone rubber spatulas at the dollar store. He swears by them and says that they are much more expensive everywhere else!

Silicone — really! True, they are awfully expensive. I’ll hafta check that out!

These kinds of items are also extremely useful for testing out the functionality of your microwave and subsequently, cleaning equipment. All intentionally, of course.

So True, Trudy,
I’ve got a “Dollar Zone” store here in town, and a few similar venues within 10 miles or so. Without doubt, they are the place to go first, whether it’s wooden spoons, turkey basters, measuring cups, or garlic presses you seek.
The guy Jill’s dating is right. I’ve seen silicone spatulas at my DZ, too.
And, though off-topic, and perhaps a bit bizarre, my Mom is 88, and cares for three cats. That means a regular box sifting job twice a day. She likes a particular type of scooper, but couldn’t find it anywhere.
Naturally, I checked out my local DZ, and voila! An extra large, round, perforated spatula with some heft, dangled appealingly from a wall hook in the kitchenware aisle. I’ve got cats, so I got one for myself, and sent another one to Mom in New York.
She loved it. Never got a nicer Mother’s Day gift from any of the other 6 kids!
